Disagreement Emerges Over East Beaver Creek Development Plans
RICHMOND HILL — The City of Richmond Hill and Sheraton Hotels are at odds over proposed development plans in the East Beaver Creek and Highway 7 area.
Sheraton, which operates the Sheraton Parkway Hotel near Leslie Street, has expressed interest in expanding its property with new hotel and convention facilities. However, city officials say the proposal must align with the upcoming East Beaver Creek Secondary Plan — a comprehensive framework designed to guide future growth, land use, and infrastructure in the busy business district.
During recent council and committee discussions, city planners emphasized the need for a coordinated approach to development, while Sheraton representatives reportedly pushed for a faster approval process. The city maintained that no individual project would be advanced ahead of the overall planning study to ensure consistency with Richmond Hill’s long-term vision.
The East Beaver Creek Secondary Plan is currently under review, with more public consultations expected later this year before final approval.
