Mayor West in 2025 SoC Speech: Building Richmond Hill
Richmond Hill Mayor David West delivered his 2025 State of the City Address today, October 27, at the Richmond Hill Board of Trade luncheon, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and future goals for the community.
Housing took center stage in his remarks, as Mayor West emphasized it remains a top city priority. He announced that three new development projects are underway, expected to create over 1,300 new homes — including long-term senior residences, affordable rental units, and retirement suites.
Other highlights included updates on a new pedestrian and cycling bridge connecting David Dunlap Observatory Park to Observatory Lane, continued investments in local parks like Richmond Green Park, and the upcoming Dave Barrow Civic Square project that will serve as a new community gathering space.
The Mayor also spoke about Richmond Hill’s growing global connections, citing partnerships with the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health, as well as a trade mission to Germany that opened new investment opportunities for local businesses.
Economically, Richmond Hill remains strong with more than 4,500 businesses operating in the city. The Small Business Enterprise Centre supported over 550 consultations in the past year, helping to launch 81 new businesses and create nearly 100 new local jobs.
