Bayview Hill Park Rink Opens, Set to Host ‘First Night’

RICHMOND HILL, ON — Winter enthusiasts in Richmond Hill have a brand new destination to lace up their skates this season. The City has officially opened its newest outdoor skating rink at Bayview Hill Park, expanding the options for family-friendly winter activities in the community.

The new rink is now operating on a daily schedule, welcoming skaters from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

A New Home for New Year’s Eve

In addition to daily recreational skating, the opening marks a significant shift for one of the city’s signature events. Bayview Hill Park has been designated as the new location for First Night, Richmond Hill’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration. Residents can look forward to ringing in the new year on fresh ice at this updated venue.

The Skate Trail Remains Open

For those looking for a different skating experience, officials confirmed that the popular Skate Trail is also open for the season, offering a scenic route for skaters of all skill levels.

Important Safety Warning

While the man-made rinks are open for business, the City is issuing a stern safety warning regarding natural bodies of water.

Safety Alert: Both Mill Pond and Lake Wilcox remain closed to the public. City officials advise that the ice thickness on these bodies of water is currently insufficient, making them unsafe for skating or walking. Residents are urged to stay off the natural ice until further notice.
