A reported altercation involving students near Bayview Secondary School has prompted a police investigation and a message from school administrators to families, according to posts circulating on social media Monday.
In an email shared online, the school’s principal said a “physical altercation” occurred Friday during a lunch period on a street adjacent to the school.
The email states that York Regional Police were contacted and are investigating the incident, while the school and the York Region District School Board are conducting their own review and disciplinary process. Families were also reminded that information can be submitted anonymously through the board’s online reporting system.
School officials said mental health supports would be made available to students as needed and emphasized that student safety remains a priority.
Social media discussions did not include official details about injuries, arrests, or how many students may have been involved. However, some online commenters referenced separate posts alleging a more serious incident outside the school. Those claims remain unverified.
Some commenters described the situation as sounding “serious” and questioned why there had not yet been broader public communication about the incident.
A review of official channels from York Regional Police, including the service’s media release page and social media accounts, did not show any public statement, media advisory, or investigation notice related to the reported incident as of Monday afternoon.
At the time of writing, neither police nor the school board had publicly released additional confirmed details about the incident.
