Strong Towns Richmond Hill
SAFE. LIVEABLE. INVITING.
Strong Richmond Hill exists to help residents create a safer, more connected, and livable city. Frustrated by traffic, unsafe streets, and housing that’s increasingly unaffordable, our community needed a way to make change. Guided by experience and the principles of the Strong Towns movement, we advocate for smarter streets, better transportation options, and incremental development that fits our neighbourhoods. By joining us—through feedback, volunteering, or attending events—residents can help shape a Richmond Hill that works for people, not just cars, ensuring safer, more vibrant streets and communities for generations to come.
Our Priorities
Strong Richmond Hill is a Local Conversation Group of the Strong Towns movement. We are a grassroots group of Richmond Hill residents who want to make our community a better and safer place to live. As a group, we are not members or supporters of a specific political party. The Group’s goal is to introduce more people to the Strong Towns ideas.
Financial Solvency
The goal of a city is to endure. To do that, cities have to be solvent.
No More Highways
More highways or roads won’t solve the car traffic. It will add to the problem.
Incremental Housing
To fix our broken housing market, we have to open the door to incremental development.
Safe Streets
Bad street design is the primary cause of vehicle crashes. Streets should be dominated by people and accommodate automobiles.
No Parking Minimums
Parking minimums cost the public. Ending parking subsidies will free up vast swaths of land that can be used more productively.
Engaged Citizens
Cities endure when residents assume ownership. In a strong city residents are Shareholders not Customers.
