A regional committee points to rental homes in development and thousands of residents receiving housing support. Its latest update does not break out the results by municipality.

York Region says its Housing and Homelessness Committee has helped advance new rental housing and expand support for residents facing housing instability. But a September 24 progress update does not say how much of that work is taking place in Richmond Hill.
The Region says a permanent Community Housing Supply Grant, together with an additional one-time investment of about $30 million in 2025, is supporting more than 500 rental homes now in pre-development or construction across York Region. Those homes are not yet completed. The update also points to Mosaic House, which opened in Whitchurch-Stouffville in 2025 with 97 subsidized and market-rent homes, and a proposed development in Georgina expected to add about 90 units.
On homelessness and housing stability, York says its funded prevention programs served more than 2,400 people in 2025. More than 7,500 people received rent benefits, while more than 2,000 people experiencing homelessness were connected with emergency or transitional housing.
The committee was established in April 2025 to guide the Region’s housing and homelessness work. Its latest release summarizes activity across all nine York Region municipalities, but identifies no new housing project, funding commitment or service change specifically for Richmond Hill.
For residents, the next useful measure of progress will be how many homes move from planning to completion—and where they are built.
