Richmond Hill residents gather for Blue Jays watch party

Following a call from Strong Towns Richmond Hill, the City hosted a lively Blue Jays watch party on Friday, October 24, at Richmond Green Sports Centre and Park. Dozens of residents — along with Mayor David West and other community members — came together under the stars to watch the Toronto Blue Jays face the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series on a large outdoor screen.

The evening began with a welcome address from Mayor West, who thanked residents for coming out to celebrate the team and the community spirit of Richmond Hill. The Tom Graham Arena remained open late into the night to accommodate visitors, and a concessions stand offered snacks and drinks for attendees.

Families arrived with their children, many dressed in Blue Jays colours, and enjoyed a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere throughout the game. As the temperature dropped, the crowd gradually thinned, with neighbours saying their goodbyes and heading home — capping off a memorable evening that reflected the city’s growing community pride.

The event fulfilled a long-standing vision of Strong Towns Richmond Hill, which has encouraged the City to host local, accessible events so residents can share experiences like this without having to travel to Toronto. The watch party was a testament to that vision — bringing people together, right where they live.
