Cosmo Music in richmond Hill to Close after 57 Years

Last Updated: March 14, 2025Categories: News

After 57 years of serving the musical community, Cosmo Music, Canada’s largest music store, has announced it will be closing its doors. The Richmond Hill-based retailer, founded in 1966 as Cosmo Guitars by Tom Hebert, expanded from a guitar import business into a comprehensive musical instrument store offering lessons and a wide range of instruments. Despite significant technological investments and efforts to adapt post-pandemic, the company faced insurmountable challenges leading to this difficult decision.

The store, located at 10 Via Renzo Drive, will remain open for a limited time, with the exact closing date yet to be determined based on inventory and other factors. Customers can anticipate a final sale, providing an opportunity to purchase gear at discounted prices. Refunds for open orders will be processed, and customer support will continue to assist with inquiries during this transition.

Looking ahead, Long & McQuade, a national leader in music retail, will assume control of the physical location. Details regarding this transition will be shared as they become available. The Hebert family expressed deep gratitude to their dedicated team, loyal customers, brand partners, and the music community, stating, “It’s been a privilege to serve as a hub for musicians and music lovers alike.”
