Dear Richmond Hill

I am afraid that I will never be able to afford a house in this city. It’s a shame because I love this city. I know every corner. I’ve walked through your forests. I’ve followed the course of your rivers. On the streets it feels like home, but how can that be without an actual home. I think the situation we have today did not come about by accident. Politicians and city planners turned our town into a suburb, doubling down on car dependent infrastructure to get residents to downtown Toronto as fast as possible. But cars are a destructive force, and the dependence on them has made Richmond Hill’s source of capital income dependent on Toronto. We need jobs in the city. We need more homes in the city. We need to build a city, not a suburb.
