Housing and Homelessness in York Region

The first meeting of the Housing and Homelessness Committee of York Region was held on May 15th. After the initial routine procedure, three presentations were given:

  1. Housing and Homelessness System Overview by Lisa Gonsalves, Commissioner, Community and Health Services. The purpose of this presentation was to Identify key roles within York Region’s housing and
    homelessness system, define current requirements for 10-year housing and
    homeless plans, which are under Provincial review, review housing needs, challenges, and actions taken, and provide information on how this Committee will inform future actions.
  2. Update on York Region’s 2024 – 2027 Homelessness Service System Plan and Rapid Deployment Actions by Kevin Pal, General Manager, Social Services. The goals in the update were ending chronic homelessness in the Region, and strengthening YR’s human rights-based approach to address homelessness.
  3. Housing and Homelessness Committee Overview and Mandate, by Karen Antonio-Hadcock, (A) General Manager, Housing Services. The purpose of this presentation was to provide an overview of Housing and
    Homelessness Committee governance structure, confirm Housing and Homelessness Committee
    proposed mandate and Terms of Reference, as directed by the Council and confirm the proposed meeting schedule and topics for 2025
