Official Plan Update Public Consulting

Last Updated: April 22, 2025Categories: Municipal

On Tuesday, April 22, City of Richmond Hill officials held a virtual webinar to discuss the City’s Official Plan Update (OPU) and the process for its revision. The Official Plan outlines the City’s long-term vision, including strategies for future development, service delivery, environmental protection, and implementation tools.

The session was facilitated by Susan Hall of LURA Consulting and focused on key topics such as affordable housing, employment areas, transportation, and the recognition of Indigenous rights in future developments.

City planning team members Chun Chu, Andrew Crawford, and Mojgan Rasouli were in attendance to present updates and respond to community input. During the presentation, the team shared the City’s current definition of “affordable housing” and described proposed updates to the OPU that reflect this definition. Regarding transportation, they emphasized a shift in focus toward active transportation options such as walking and cycling, over reliance on single-occupancy vehicles.

The webinar concluded with a Q&A session, giving attendees an opportunity to engage directly with City staff. Residents were encouraged to visit the City’s Official Plan Update webpage and to send additional questions or feedback to opupdate@richmondhill.ca.

The next public meeting on the Official Plan Update will be held in person at the McConaghy Centre on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
