STRH Meeting in March: from bike club to Maple Syrup Festival
The Strong Towns Richmond Hill (STRH) Local Conversation Group (LCG) held its monthly meeting on March 9th at the city’s Central Library. Many attendees from the February session returned, and discussions kicked off by acknowledging the growing number of new members joining the LCG.
LCG Leader Saeed proposed hosting community events in various areas of interest to attract even more members. One such initiative is the STRH Bike Club, led by Chris, which will organize events like a Bike Repair Clinic. This clinic will provide bike enthusiasts and parents with guidance on selecting the right bicycle and performing minor repairs.
Another new initiative introduced was the STRH Comic Fans Club, which will be led by Richmond Hill resident and comic book author Howard Wong. This club aims to bring together comic enthusiasts within the community.
The meeting also included an update on the Community Garden project at Cordave Parkette, initially proposed by member Aram. It was reported that key hurdles, such as insurance coverage for participants, have been resolved. The project is now in the design phase, focusing on selecting plants for the garden.
Additionally, members discussed various promotional tools, including business cards, postcards, flyers, and banners, to enhance STRH’s visibility within the community. The group also prepared for STRH’s participation in the upcoming Mayor’s Maple Syrup Festival, where they will have a table to engage with more community members.
The next STRH Local Conversation Group meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 13th, at the Central Library.
